Fruit or juice? Disposable or cloth? Toys with sound, or those without? Proper names or toddler language?
The either or's we are all faced with as parents of toddlers seem neverending. And at the heart of these is one of the biggest stepping stones we'll ever face. The toddler bed. Standing across the room like a giant insurmountable beast, some of us are simply dying to get our little ones in that bed and out of the crib as fast as possible. Still others are dreading the transition with everything we have, and are determined to keep our toddlers in their cribs as long as physically possible. So when's the right time to switch?
I have no idea. I know that an infant shouldn't go in a toddler bed, and that if your child can't lay straight and not have his feet hanging out of crib then it's probably past time to get him out of it.
Other than that, I'm just like the rest of you. Should I move him now? Is it too early? How will I keep him in the toddler bed? Should I go ahead and child proof the door so he can't get out if he gets up in the middle of the night? What if there's a fire? How is that safe? Should I try a gate instead?
And the list goes on.
What did you do when it came time for your toddler to make the big move? Did it go smoothly? Or was it more like organized chaos?

My sister's 2 1/2 year old is still in his crib... being pregnant with the new baby, she didn't want to start making huge changes with him and confuse him. He just loves his crib. Her 1 1/2 year old is still in one, too, but we joke that he'll be in a "big boy" bed before his older brother! I think it's a personal, child-by-child decision to make. I'm not much help, am I? Sorry - I have no human kids yet!! :)
Thanks for letting me know about your new blog location!!

Our oldest didn't switch out of her crib until she was 2 1/2, but just went straight to her big girl bed with a gate thing on the outside edge. Our middle was switched out of his at 18 months, but that's b/c his little brother was about to occupy it. He did okay in the toddler bed. The "baby" is still in the crib at just 2 years old, and I'm not willing to switch it until he's about to crawl out of it! :D
Good question.
Our son is an active toddler as well and we moved him out of the crib as soon as he started climbing out of it. This was a decision based on safety.
Like Kerri did above with her toddler, we put our son into a regular single bed with a guard rail.
I liked it, you can find more Toddler Beds from spacify.
