I was totally prepared to get on here and tell everyone how the morning sickness is finally getting better, and I'm finally getting back to normal. But that was before TODAY, which has been a total bear, and if anything the morning sickness seems worse today than other days. Ah well, only a couple more weeks until the first trimester is over and I should have some relief. Notice I said "should". I've learned never to count my chickens.
On better news, we went to our first ultrasound appointment last Friday, and saw our little peanut for the first time. I love how the doctor says "there's that beautiful little baby!" while, as much as I am already attached to this little one, I am still sitting there thinking "but it looks like a shrimp to me." A big shrimp mind you, like from Red Lobster or something, but a shrimp nonetheless. At least at a little over nine weeks we could see the heart pumping fast and steady, and the little peanut was already jumping and wiggling all over the place.
Alex has been doing well, we visited Grams and Poppy and he visited the ocean for the very first time. He is hands down a huge fan of waves, sand, and everything in between. I'm fairly certain he had wondrous ocean filled dreams that night when he finally tuckered out. On the home front, he is cutting some molars, which is causing lots of extra drooling, some considerable discomfort, and necessitating some extra rest during the day. The extra rest works well for me, since I am a fan of extra rest these days myself. To help him with his discomfort though, I have used the following so far:
1) Ice water. We keep ice water on hand in a sippy cup or regular cup for whenever he wants it.
2) Tylenol. When he's having particularly bad days, I give him a small dose of Tylenol just to take the edge off.
3) Brushing our teeth. Believe it or not, Alex seems to actually find comfort in having his teeth brushed multiple times per day. I'm sure it helps massage his gums, maybe tickles a bit. Either way, it makes him happy, and that makes me happy. Which makes the world happy, since no one wants to deal with an unhappy pregnant woman.
4) Harder teething toys. For these bigger teeth in the back, the softer teething rings you can put in the fridge just aren't cutting it. Instead, the favorite item is a hard teething toy that Grandma Remeta got us at the store. I think it's an airplane of some sort, but is a harder rubbery type material. Either way, it's easy to clean, and has lots of knobs and things for Alex to gnaw on.
5) Apple slices. Sliced apple pieces, especially those fresh from the fridge and nice and cold, are a great snack option. Alex chews on them eagerly, and I can see him rubbing the cool fruit on his gums. After this particular snack we do brush our teeth though, to clean off any leftover pieces.
So if any of you are currently fighting the Molar Wars, give some of these ideas a try. You never know, they just might work!!

I hope the morning sickness eases up soon. How wonderful you saw your little one on the ultrasound! So exciting. I hope Alex feels better, too. Teething sucks.
Love your blog!
One thing I've tried that works is to take a whole carrot or celery stalk and put it in the freezer for a bit. Then give it to them to chew on. Unless they have lots of teeth it's almost impossible to chew a piece off to choke on AND it helps them get a taste for Veggies.
Luckily, we've never had too many issues with teething. Good Luck! and I hope the nausea passes quickly. 10 weeks was always the magical number for me.
Leslie, thanks for the well wishes, I'm praying it eases up soon too so I can get down to the more fun part of eating for two!
Elizabeth, thanks for the tip, I'll definitely try that. Alex loves carrots regardless, so I'm sure he'd take to it. Any ideas on how I can get him to eat cooked veggies though? That part's more like pulling teeth than getting them!
