Punting the Pacifier

Don't mention the P - A - C - I word to Alex, but it is officially a thing of the past. We're going on our second completely pacifier free day and so far it's been relatively easy. Alex has never really had much issue with crying for a paci or "needing" help self soothing. On the one side this makes things like getting rid of the paci relatively easy. On the other hand, the child is so independent and secure he has NO FEAR WHATSOEVER! How do you explain to a 19 month old that climbing to the top of the bookshelf is not safe? How do you show him that walking straight into the pool anytime he wants could result in an unfavorable outcome?

Every day I am reminded of how much my little man is growing up. He is the epitome of a rough and tumble little boy at this point. Yesterday he was running across the driveway after his ball and literally went SPLAT onto his hands and knees. I winced, waiting for the screeching to start. After all, I was a kid once too. I remember well the sting of scuffed knees and palms. But my son, ever on the go, decided he had no time for such trivial things as comfort, what's a little sting anyway? And like a shot he was up and on the go again, never losing his constant grin.

Men. I don't think I'll never understand them completely.

Julia never had an interest in the pacifier. I can totally relate to the No Fear factor! She is much like Alex sounds. What rough and tumble kids!
