Growing Up and OUT

What a learning experience this month has been for us! Alex is growing by leaps and bounds and getting ready to begin his journey on lots of new developmental milestones. The baby is growing too, which means I'm growing bigger and wider in the process. Let's see if I can sum up the major issues for you guys:

1 - Next week Alex will be trying out his new big boy racecar bed instead of his crib. I'm really hyping up the "big boy bed" angle here, so hopefully all will go well.

2 - The HG "may" be taking a break, I've been able to eat fairly well recently and haven't been nauseous very often. I've talked with my nurse and am going to try ramping down on the dosage from the zofran pump in hopes of eventually getting off the pump altogether. Keep your fingers crossed, I could really do with getting rid of this thing altogether!

3 - Potty training is a hot button issue right now. Alex has a potty set which he does enjoy, and hes starting to understand what "potty" is. We do sit him on the potty a couple times of day, but I refuse to push this issue for two major reasons. One, I simply don't think he's ready. Alex doesn't yet understand what poo-poo is, and pee-pee so far is a part of his anatomy, not something we do in our diaper or in the toilet. He also doesn't have any reliable signals for when he's going in his diaper. He is excellent at tricking people though! He'll pass gas or look like he's straining, or even squat down randomly, sending me running to see if I can get him on the potty or check his diaper and ... NOTHING. :-) From what I've discussed with my doctor and my other mom friends, 3 is pretty much the average age for boys to start really "getting" the idea behind potty training. And two, I'm simply not a parent to force developments on my child. Granted, should he be three or so and showing no interest I will definately be pushing this more. But right now the boy is not yet two, and his life is about to be totally turned upside down with the additional of a new baby brother. Potty training will come. I refuse to make it something Alex and I both dread.

4 - The new baby gave us a tiny scare at the ultrasound a few weeks ago. One of his kidneys is dilated larger than it really should be. According to the doctor though, this is not all that uncommon with little boy babies at this stage, and it usually corrects itself by the next ultrasound (which will be in November for us). So, send us all your "normal kidney" vibes, since another medical issue is just NOT what this family needs right now. :-)

5 - I want my husband back. I hate that he has to be away from us at times and I'm not afraid to whine about it. There I've said it. It SUCKS. But, we're hopefully getting near the end of that stressor too, and I'm looking forward to us being able to be a real family during the week again.

That's about it for me everyone. I'm sure there are tons more things I've forgotten, and I'm going to try to get back on here and update a lot more often now that things have settled down for the fall for us. Hope to see all of you around the magical world wide web sometime soon!!

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better! I hope all turns out well with the baby and Alex's potty training. We're still working on that one - we're not totally there yet, but it'll come!
