Welcome To The Yo-Yo of My Life

Back and forth, up and down, back and forth. Man I'm friggin' dizzy at this point. Stephen is determined to keep me on my toes, that's for sure! Remember the issues with breastfeeding we were having? And how we decided last weekend to throw in the towel and switch to formula? Well we're back to the boobies these days. We thought that the problems were caused by my oversupply and oald (over active let down). Some of it was, but looks like more of it was a severe reflux problem. Did your little ones have reflux? Alex had it as well, and I feel like something of an idiot since, as Stephen didn't have the same symptoms I ruled it out as a problem early. Whoops. Here were some of Stephen's symptoms:

- fussiness
- arching his back
- spitting up after every feeding (even up to an hour or more after)
- raspy breathing at times (not breathing problems, just sounded like he had a cold)
- sudden and completely random screaming

So turns out the reflux was irritating his throat and upper airway (thus the raspy breathing), AND GET THIS - this doc thinks GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), aka a fancy name for reflux and the heartburn associated with it, could be more responsible for Alex's asthma flare ups than any type of allergy. Who'd have thought? In any case, little Stephen is now on Zantac and though he's only had one dose so far, he does seem considerably happier.

Poor little guy - don't you just sometimes wish they could sit up and TELL us what's wrong?
