Olive Oil For Cradle Cap

OLIVE OIL??? ON THIS HEAD FULL OF HAIR??

That's right. I said it. Grease 'em up like a pig, let them sit around smelling like a french fry for ten to twenty minutes, then rinse. And rinse again, and wash with baby shampoo, and wash again, etc. I didn't say the clean up process would be easy, but it is certainly worth it.

I read about using olive oil to help with cradle cap in a parenting magazine and as Stephen has been battling this particular affliction since birth (there are some downfalls to having all that beautiful hair straight out of the ... well, you know), I decided to give it a shot.

So while we were all hanging out in the kitchen, discussing our day as Nick marinated our steaks for the grill and I slaved away over 5 minute in the bag steamed veggies we dribbled a little bit of everyone's favorite cooking aid on our infant's head and gently rubbed it in. Twenty minutes later during our bath (the boys, not mine) the cradle cap was already noticeably improved. I used a soft bristled brush to gently massage his scalp, and then washed his hair (three times I think before I got the oily feel out). After drying he still had some flaking, but feeling he'd had enough I left it alone and the next day ALL of the cradle cap was gone.

That's been over a week ago, and still no return on the cradle cap. Instead he has a beautiful head full of hair and NO icky yellow flakes.

So if you're battling the scaly head demon, look to your countertop or cabinet and fix it with no pain, no medicines, and very little fuss!
