so go check it out!
Also, I got an email from my aunt the other day that had this nifty bit of information to share:
To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out
personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet
at bedtime then cover with socks.
Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes
and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief.
Just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough
medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to the chemical
make-up of these strong drugs so, I listened.
It was a surprising finding and found to be more effective than
prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, and in addition, to
have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on
to sleep soundly. Lolly tried it on herself when she had a very deep
constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that
it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a
few minutes and believe me, this was a deep, (incredibly annoying!)
every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough free for
hours every night that she used it.
So, if you have children, pass it on, if you end up sick, try
it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed by the effect.
Has anyone actually had any experience with this? I remember Vicks always worked great for me when I was a kid, plus I just loved the smell for some reason. But I'm wondering if this is a for real helper or just one of those random bogus emails?

My mom always used Vicks on me when I was a kid, but never on my feet. I'd say it's worth trying out.
I've been using Baby Vick's on Benjamin right now... he has an awful cough and some congestion. I would say feet may be worth trying. Funny... I have only used on chest, back, nose and neck. But hey, if it works... should work anywhere. Plus... I'm with you, love the smell!
I will check your interview out right now on 5 minutes for mom!! How did you get that!? So awesome!!

I will keep this in mind when it comes to my daughters
thanks
Ooh I also love Vicks and use the Baby version on my kiddos. Hey, I'll try it, I am sure it can't HURT, can it?
Audrey, I will track down the page where I signed up for the interview. It takes a few weeks since they are slammed over there, but I'll get the link to you soon.
Leslie, I remember my mom always used it on us, and it got to the point where I would start to feel better as soon as I could smell it. Crazy huh?
Rainqueen, let me know how it works for you!
Mommin, my thoughts exactly! If it's safe to put on their chest it's got to be safe to put on their feet right?
There is no proof that this works, the Canadian Research Council has never tested this which shows the email you recieved is fraudulant. Before posting info on your site you should verify the accuracy first. There are people saying "I'll have to try that" based on you posting this. Copy a unique line from the email you received and post it into a search engine and look at the results - before forwarding emails or posting them online.
It's funny how the claws come out sometimes when people are feeling righteous. It's also a lot easier to stand behind a comment when you have "Anonymous" to hide behind. Here's the point. I've made no testament anywhere on this site to being anything other than your ordinary, average, every day mom. I make my own decisions for my children based on what I feel is right and tend to trust my instincts. I do not claim to be a doctor, a nurse, or anyone else. The things I post on my site are generally things I have tried myself, and if not, I admit such. This is a blog. It's a personal journal of what works in my life. Anyone who reads information here is free and encouraged to research it on their own and make their own decisions. If I had time to do background checks on every email I receive, I wouldn't have a two year old. Please try to contain your disdain for us lowly folks who are trudging through the day to day of loving, raising, and successfully ENJOYING our children. Find somewhere else to spread your flaming tactics.
From little jimmy,s DaD. You tell "em girl. My wife and I will try this tonight, little jimmy, two yrs 4 mo. has had this cough for sometime now. At night is when it is really bad. put in his room, air purifier, humidifier, hypo allergenic linin, nothing has worked.Took him to emergency room last night, no answers for his condition. They did say that respiatory illness ER visits for toddlers has increased at an alarming rate this decade.
everybody check out the following link:

there has never been any medical study conducted on this topic -- this an urban myth e-mail chain
Okay, well since this is obviously such a hot button issue for at least one flamer in particular, I will gladly go back in and delete the part that mentions this has been researched. Please make sure and research any parenting tips you find online. In any case, I seriously doubt putting vapor rub on a child's feet is going to cause any major medical issues. But what do I know, I'm just a mom. :-)
There has been a national alert not to use on infants and toddlers. I have a 14 month old and used vicks during a cold. We left the emergency room from his having restricted airways. Then this alert comes on the TV today that Vicks can cause this. If you search for Vicks Vapor Rub Toddler there are several articles that came out today about this.
